Good manners and curse words
by Maverick inone of the comments i have heard many times is what good manners i display.
i open doors, allow others to cut in line ahead of me, say please, thank you and may i all the time, stand for a lady and many other simple little and often goofy actions that seem to have been lost on the current generation.
in fact the thing that attracted my present girlfriend was her observation of my good manners.

It's part of being human I think. It's like belching or passing gas....not always appropriate but it sure makes you feel better!
As for me, I've started to pick up a few choice words in other languages...it breaks up the monotony.

The father of the bro I was dating was an elder and very strict. He said that we couldn't go in F.S. together unless there was a car group of 5 people....car groups are made up of FOUR!

If you had to change one thing you did while being a JW, what would it be?
by MelbaToast in.
i have seen so many stories here that invoke guilt and shame on innocents, what one important momyumental thing would you have changed if you had it to do over?.
mine would be not getting baptized.

I didn't know the thing about the antidepressants. I was on them for almost two years after leaving the jws. I'll have to talk with a recruiter about all of this. Thanks you guys!

Did The Elders Try To "Police" You??

I got df'd in Feb 2002 and haven't been contacted by a single elder. My dad is an elder and he doesn't even call me to invite me to the Memorial! I'm not complaining, but it would be nice if they even faked missing me.

How a JW treats a friend
by Sirius Dogma ini have been thinking lately how being raised a jw taught me to be a terrible friend.. to a jw friendship is completely conditional.
if you don't share the same beliefs as me, you cannot be my friend.
if you offend my conscience, you cannot be my friend.

Do or did JW teachings bastardize friendships and make them less of value for you?
Absolutely!
I always tried to go out of my way for my friends. I opened my home to them, gave them food/money when they needed it, would be there for them at any time day or night. But let them get df'd and suddenly it couldn't be the same. I always felt bad about it. I always felt that it wasn't right...but you couldn't ever tell anyone you felt that way or thus be shunned and called before the police...er, elders. If the person was still coming to meetings and trying to come back then I would put my hand on their shoulder as they walked by. I'd look to make sure no one was looking and then I'd smile at them or pat them on the back. I wanted them to know they were still loved even though I couldn't talk to them. One of the girls confessed to me later that it had gotten so bad for her that the day they reinstated her she had tried to kill herself!
Since being df'd myself, I have been able to exercise what I believe is the true meaning of friend. I've even experienced it from a couple of folks in the old cong that still talked to me after I was ousted. Those are the ones that I consider friends.

Well, my topic says it all. I am a 28yr old female. I am currently training for the police academy and would like to join the reserves by the time I'm 30, no later. I am also a lesbian and former conscientious objector (b/c of the jws). Does anyone have comments or suggestions that may help with my decision?

Thanks Ohiocowboy! That's a great idea. I hope to get a good response....I'll keep you posted.
Flower, I know the confusion you went thru. I was tempted to change gender when I was struggling to come out. I thought that if I showed up at a new KH where no one knew me as a brother then I would be accepted better than a lesbian....LOL, yeah right!! I'm glad I made the right decision...but I now have a new empathy for transgendered people.
